How To Customise Your Ceremony…guest blog post by Rev. Kim Tavendale

I say if you can get a burger any way you want it, why shouldn’t you be able to have your ceremony the way you want it, too?!

It starts with picking the right wedding officiant, someone who is willing to ask you what’s important to you and what you want to include in your ceremony. Then, you can move on to choosing between all the options for every component of the ceremony. From the way your wedding party enters, to how you dance out for the recessional, there are many opportunities to make your ceremony uniquely yours!

There are wedding customs you can incorporate from cultures all over the world. You can have an American-style processional, where the attendants come down the aisle two by two and split off to each side, or a Jewish-style entrance with both parents escorting the bride. You can include one or more unity ceremonies (you’ve heard of sand & candles, but there’s also lots of others including seedlings, stones, blessing of the rings, flowers, handfasting and so much more – even wine!), and readings of your choosing, and songs to be played or sung during the ceremony. The vows you speak to each other should be meaningful to you, so you should have the option to write your own, or say something from one heart to another on your wedding day. You can also include your guests in your wedding by asking for their blessing and support.
