Gift Registry Ettiquette: the Do's and Dont's of your Registry By Katie Swift

Gift registries can be great to help guests choose gifts that you actually need, but it can be tricky to word on an invitation. No one wants to make their guests feel obligated to purchase a gift. For store registries, a simple line such as “The Bride and Groom are registered at Macy’s and Bed, Bath and Beyond” is best.

However, it is not uncommon for couples to go a different route and request contributions to their honeymoon. It can be difficult to word this request without sounding pushy or rude. Try a cute rhyme such as this one from youandyourwedding.com

We are sending out this invitation
In hope you will join a celebration

But if a gift is your intention
May we take this opportunity to mention

We have already got a kettle and toaster
crockery, dinner mats, and matching coasters

so rather than something we have already got
We would appreciate money for our honeymoon pot

But most importantly we request
That you come to our wedding as our guest
