Cathedral Wedding

Denver Wedding Coordinators, Denver Wedding Planners, Colorado Events by Jennifer Lane A Memory Lane Event
Weddings with Jennifer Lane, A Memory Lane Event
Downtown Cathedral Wedding

Recently we have been revisiting the weddings from over the past years, and there always seems to be one that jumps out and reminds us what are focus as a company is. That wedding is Kristen and Franco’s, from the get go they wanted high end glamour, in a luxurious and elegant manor; all while keeping the reception fun and entertaining.

With the stunning backdrop of the cathedral in downtown Denver, it set the day off with the perfect romantic feel. Everyone in the room could feel the love and commitment the two had for each other.

Kristen and Franco chose a purple motif for their special day. Keeping with that color scheme the bridesmaids dresses were a beautiful, rich, plum color; as were the accents in their floral bouquets. Searching for that excitement and energetic reception LED lights were brought in to capture the ambiance of the day; highlighting the entire hall in a purple blanket of lights

Disco Themed Events

Disco and other themed events have been making a huge comeback.  What theme do you have in mind?

American Wedding Style in 2013

Colorado weddings, elegant, romantic, vintage themes
Elegant                     Romantic                             Vintage
So many times brides will call me and say that they want soft, romantic and vintage style, or they say I want modern lines.  These types of descriptions are so vague because they mean different things to different people.  How do we get around the vague description.  Bring your inspiration pictures to your appointment with the planner and other vendors such as florist, dress.

Vintage, pink, country wedding, outdoor wedding
Soft pink, white and candlelight formal wedding
Elegant
Brides usually desire to have sophisticated I do's - so there is nothing new there.  Its not everyday you get to throw a glamorous gala for 100+ guests. For those who fantasize about having a formal fanfare... this years is going back to black and white with crystals and pops of diamond bling with lots of candle light.

The new formal allows for more personalization i.e. chic and not stuffy.

bright pops of color
Romantic
No surprise here, what bride doesn't think of her day as romantic, after-all, shot gun weddings are a thing of the past. The day should be a reflection of the couple and their love for each other. Its usually intimate, The rose is the flower of love, however, depending upon the time of year can be expensive ... talk to your planner and florist about other options to save you money.

Vintage
Has made a huge comeback for 2013, mason jars, apothecary bottles are here to stay.  However, burlap and lace is huge too.  Additional good 'ol day items, bird cages, bird cage veils with feather facinators, 1940's hair styles, photo booths with flapper headbands, displaying black and white photos in antique frames of loved ones in the cocktail area.
Vintage weddings - veils
Vintage Victorican hat with veil
Vintage weddings - burlap and lace
Burlap and lace - chair bows
Vintage weddings - Colorado weddings
Burlap and ruffle tablecloths.  Use as accents considering they are over $100 each.

How to save on the bar

Saving on the bar, doesn't have to be as tricky as some brides and clients make it.

1.   Creating a specialty drink can stretch pricey liquors.  The same bottle of Vodka can make 50 martini's, but only 25 Vodka tonics, which though taste good, are not as festive or fun. Make sure to create a virgin look a like for your younger guests and non-drinkers so they can participate too.  Distinguish with the garnish.  Specialty drinks are the best, why, the bar tenders can make a big batch and just pour them into the individual glasses when they are needed.

2.  Trim the cost of a full bar by skimping, using a less expensive maker of (or even foregoing) on the least requested spirits such as scotch,  bourbon, rum or tequila. If you have lots of older guests, skipping the scotch or bourbon is not a good idea.

3.   Instead of a champagne toast, have guests toast using whatever they are drinking.

4.  Ditch hard liquor altogether and just have beer and wine.  Select regional wines and some local ales.

5.  You can get away with using cheaper wines by serving sangria.  The trick??? For red wine: use apples, plums, grapes and citrus fruits with brandy, and triple sec.  For white wines: green grapes, kiwi, green melon, pears, and triple sec.

6.  Shrink your rental bill by using all purpose glass ware such as stemless wine glasses for all beverages.

7.  Tell staff to ask before re-filling glasses or clearing 1/2 consumed beverages.

8.  Consider the handiest communal method: the punch bowl.  Its retro and cheap, but can get your guests into a lot of trouble.

 The choco/coconut Mounds Specialty  Drink

individual drink:  equal parts of the following into a martini shaker.  Shake and pour over blue sugar rimmed glass.

coconut vodka
white chocolate liqueur
Blue Curacao liqueur

each glass can have up to 3 dry ice pellets.  Add the dry ice into a dry ice stir stick called a Mysti-stick.   Yes it's safe in small quantities.  Do Not Touch the ice using your fingers.   Dry ice pellets melt fast.  Get 3-4 times the amount you think you need. i.e. 50 people, get 35 pounds, in the winter and 50 pounds in the summer. Additionally, you'll have to store in a freezer.

Memory Wedding bouquets

Memory Wedding bouquets
Is there a special someone or a lost loved one that can’t be at your wedding? Use this idea to keep them close to you as you take the big walk down the aisle. You take their pictures and put them in mini frames and attach them to the ribbon on the stems of your flowers. This will keep the people that are close to you, close to your heart. This way they will be watching over you no matter where they are.

August Wedding

Outdoor Extravaganza
8/6/2011

Outdoor weddings are to summer as falling leaves are to trees. This past weekend A Memory Lane Events worked hard give Abby & Randy the wedding of their dreams. It was a spectacular event full of love and joy as the happy couple began the journey of sharing their lives together. The celebrations started out late afternoon on Friday, with the rehearsal dinner; it then carried through to the wedding on Saturday, and ended in Sunday brunch.
To me one of the most special things about the wedding was that it took place in the bride’s family backyard. It gave the celebration a much more intimate feel and allowed for a simple elegance to transpire. Which is always key when having an outdoor wedding.
The saying goes; rain on your wedding day will bring you good luck. That is easy to say when you are getting married inside, but when your entire celebration is outside it is hard to think that that is good luck. It feels more like bad luck. But one of the great beauties that accompanies rain storms are the lovely rainbows that follow. For the bride and groom, the day of their rehearsal dinner two full rainbows formed and for the day of the wedding a whole rainbow formed centering over the arch they were married under.
AMLE had a fabulous time this weekend and we were all so proud to be apart of the marriage celebration f Abby and Randy. We wish the two of them the best of luck in their future together.

Fabulous cakes

Fabulous Cakes

Cupcakes as the desert of choice for weddings are leaving just as fast as they came in. No longer is passé to have the traditional wedding cake. Now this does not mean that there needs to be the boring butter cream frosting layer cake. This is your chance to take your theme and your personality to the extreme and wow all of your guests. Cakes can be fun, whimsical, and beautiful. They are in and of themselves a piece of artwork.  Here are just a few of the ones I found that Inspired me, and that I thought were worthy of being recognized.

Benefits of Having a Planner

Think Twice Before Doing it Alone

Catering: $6800.00
Flowers: $3000.00
Dress: $5000.00
Cake: $700.00
Venue: $2000.00

Having someone there to do all the work for you: Priceless!

Doing everything yourself when it comes to your wedding proves to be more difficult and costly than it would have been if you had chosen a planner from the get go. So many brides out there come to this realization to late and are stuck. They get in to deep and get out, unfortunately for them their day is no longer the day that they dreamed it would be. They end up having do majority of the work themselves, setting up, decorating, dealing with vendors, tearing down, organizing where the guests will go, so on and so forth. It becomes a never ending trail of people coming up to her and asking her to do things. I don’t know about you but this seems all wrong to me. The brides wedding day should be all about her, this is what we have been told since we were little girls, and personally I want it that way. Having someone there to do all the decorating, set up, tear down, work with the vendors (make sure they are on top of their game, doing what they need to do), tell guests where to go, and keep the general schedule of the day is priceless. Don’t underestimate the hardships of planning your own wedding. Go to the experts who have been doing it for over 20 years, their knowledge and expertise can save you thousands of dollars and multiple meltdowns. Here at A Memory Lane Events we are dedicated to make your day magical and memorable for you.

Celebrate Good Times

Festive Fever

We all know that New Years Eve is a popular holiday to have a wedding on, as well as celebrating the wedding festivities ass weekend long on Memorial Day. But how about all those other holidays that are our favorites. As kids we grow up loving the holidays, the sweets, the decorations, the parties, etc. For some out there they never forget those feelings and they dream that they will be able to recreate that for their wedding. I know what most of you are thinking, “Oh my gosh a holiday wedding, it’s going to be a tacky over the top soiree”, and yes sometimes that is exactly what happens. But we are here to help guide you and show you ways to keep it classy and elegant.
Let’s start out with Halloween. This haunting and spooky holiday is filled with ghosts, goblins, tricks, and treats. The bride most that most think would chose a weeding with this theme is the Goth bride, except more and more women are opting to have fright filled wedding. Below I have chosen two photo boards to represent this, each embody the theme, but bring about a different atmosphere to the event

The first one is a more sophisticated take on the theme; it pulls out the mysterious side to Halloween. Highlighting the black and bringing in accents of silver. It creates a whimsical feel, especially with the jack-o-lanterns, the top hat on the bride, and the bow tie on the groom. With the choice in colors the couple has created a soft, romantic feel, and the decorations add a fanciful feel to their big day. The second look takes a more literal approach to Halloween; with orange and black being the main colors, but they have gone away from the traditional ghosts and goblins. Instead, keeping it closer to autumn or harvest. Cascades of pumpkins decorate the outdoors venue, and rich fall flowers are used in the bouquets. A great way they accent the theme is in the invitations, it’s not all over the whole invitation, but in a small hidden accent under the lid of the envelope. This carries on into our next holiday. Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful and give back to others. I chose a warm motif to represent this holiday theme. The rich fall colors create a loving and welcoming atmosphere to guests. The caramel and chocolate colored bows add hints of style and sophistication, the bows themselves are a feminine touch but the colors allow for some masculinity. As we all know leaves are a major part of fall, they are the inspiration for the gorgeous colors and they fall all around us. Incorporating them into the bouquets and flower arrangements can be tricky and doesn't always turn out well. But here they have incorporated them nicely. Adding them to the pillows with the rings and also having gold templates under the cupcakes. There they especially add a nice touch to an otherwise simple looking dessert.
Next comes everyone’s favorite holiday season. It is most defiantly mine. I think it’s the way people change, whether is be the weather, the decorations, the month long coverage of Christmas music, or the festive warm drinks that are debuted; holiday cheer is always in the air!

There are so many ways to interpret Christmas, and all of us have our own special memories of the holiday. Here are a few boards that I chose that I felt represented different views. The first one is a soft romantic look that uses shades of cream and light pink as their colors. With the outside covered in a fresh dusting of snow, the candles bring in the warmth and give the wedding that loving atmosphere. The second look takes a modern twist on a vintage Christmas; the colors are a rich deep red, a soft gold, with green and brown accents thrown in. The board has a sophisticated elegance to it, and the color choices are what bring out the main theme of Christmas. The fourth board I threw in because I thought it was fun and beautiful, I loved the chocolate covered candy canes and the fruit filled Champaign flutes. The writing on the invitations showcases the Christmas spirit well; the color choice and the calligraphy writing make it look like it came straight from Santa’s work shop. We wouldn’t forget the non Christmas celebrating folks, so I have found a beautiful, frosted blue and diamond filled board.  That incorporates the color into every aspect of the wedding, even down to the cheese markers, and monogrammed napkins.
Next are a collection of inspiration boards from a selection of random holidays. Cinco de Mayo, St. Patrick’s Day, 4th of July

These are all just a fun assortment of pictures that give way to creating a fun and relaxed event. I could help including them; I thought they all looked so fun and exciting. Mostly I just wanted be a guest at these fabulous celebrations. These holidays are more about the party and having a good time with family and friends. So remember, celebrate with lots of color, keep it simple, and enjoy your day!

Flowers & their seasons

Colorado weddings, A Memory Lane Event - Pink Posey
Picking event &/or wedding flowers in season can save you a bunch of money. Sure, growers are now able to fly almost anything in from the other side of the world, but you'll pay a premium for that. Here is a U,S. guide to what flowers are generally in season to help you get started. Talk specifically to your florist or floral designer about what is available.

This chart can also help you decide when to have your event or get married. If you want huge amounts of different pink flowers, fall might not be the best time for you to get married. On the other hand, if adore zinnias and dahlias, perhaps you should have a fall wedding.

Be sure to scroll down and see wedding flowers that are available year-round.
