How Can an Event Specialist Assist you?

It needs to be said that gathering your vendor team takes time, patience and lots of work, if you’re doing it entirely on your own without help. Event decoration designs take creativity, lots of tools and materials. Developing and following a timeline is a skill.  How do you know whether you can plan this special occasion on your own or wave the white flag and hire a professional event and wedding planner?  You need to have an honest conversation with yourself and your family? Know your own strengths and weaknesses.

We find that most families who do need the help of a professional event and wedding planner are parents who work full time or a single parent.  Those who aren’t very detail oriented, have less than perfect organization skills, don’t know many quality local vendors/ event professionals or desire high quality wow factor that represents them as an individual or couple. If this is you…the answer may be yes…You do need the help of a professional special event planner.

How can an Event specialist and planner assist you?

Special Event and wedding planners can not only offer creative ideas and help you plan all aspects of your event; they can often get better prices, since they bring repeat business.  A good planner becomes your best friend very quickly.  They can help you with all the event details and/or specific tasks such as day of coordination.  Each planner has their own pricing schedule and contract requirements. However, typically charge between 10-20% of the entire cost of your special occasion.  Factor in the price of your sanity when making your decision.

Planners have vendors and wedding professionals in all price ranges and personalities, as well as contacts for emergencies on the day of.  Yes it does happen when a vendor doesn’t show up on the day.  Although you wouldn’t be able to do anything at the last minute, a great planner has back up professionals who can step in if and when this happens, and usually without anyone noticing.

Here’s a big tip!  Many vendors offer planners special pricing due to the repeat business.  As a result, you can actually save some money and you’ll definitely save your sanity and     when you hire a planner to help you.  If you’re not sure what you want yet, it’s ok. With years of training, we’ll ask you questions, you’ll ask us questions and soon together we’ll develop and plan and vision that completely encompasses you and your fiancé or company.

Lastly, a good planner takes care of you, your guest needs and any last minutes problems that arise at your special occasion. It’s not uncommon for a planner to break up a kids scuffle, run down extra extension cords, sew up a hem, or make sure that Grandma has her meal and an early ride home.  And, do it all without you (the client) knowing what was happening.  Your role at the event is to mingle and enjoy your friends and family.  Not to watch the timeline, give driving instructions to the hair stylist or coordinate with the catering staff as to when you’re ready to eat dinner and when the limo driver should arrive for your grand exit.

And, it’s your friends’ role to be an invited guest.  Good friends always ask what they can do to help and they mean well, but they shouldn’t be a part of your staff. Once the party begins, they want to and should mingle with other friends and not stay tuned into your party needs and problems.

If this hasn’t convinced you why hiring an event planner and specialist for your special occasion, ask to see their emergency kit they bring to every event.  I guarantee their kit contains hundreds of items and they are prepared for any situation.

Event & Wedding Guest Etiquette

Elegant weddings, Denver weddings, elopement, engagement parties, bridal, bride, Colorado Weddings Denver, Colorado, wedding coordinator, wedding planner, wedding, destination weddings, Colorado wedding, weddings, wedding planner, Colorado wedding planners, A Memory Lane Event , wedding decor

When your friends or family invite you to a party or invite you to come to their wedding, you know that there are all kinds of etiquette rules that govern their behavior. But did you know there are rules for event & wedding guests too? To ensure that you don't inadvertently commit a faux pas or do anything mistaken at a loved one's event or wedding, follow these simple rules.

Don't be late! If an invitation says that the festivities will begin at 5, be sure to arrive there by 4:45 so as to give yourself time to find a seat and get settled, especially if the special occasion is a wedding. You wouldn't want to interrupt the processional.

If it is a wedding AVOID taking photographs during the ceremony. Leave that to the professionals and respect the sanctity of the ritual in front of you.

You don't need to bring a gift with you to the wedding. In fact, you have up until a year after the wedding to give a gift.  If you are unable to attend the wedding, it is customary to still send a wedding gift.

Don't bring a date unless your invitation specifically says their name or "+ Guest".  Remember that the cost for each person attending an event or wedding is generally high, so bringing unexpected guests is very impolite. This includes your children or other relatives!

Many ceremonies have parts where the congregation alternately stands and sits. The program or officiant may tell you when to do so; if not, follow the lead of others around you. If you are physically unable to stand, remain quietly seated.

RSVP promptly. The couple will be making many decisions based on the number of people who will be there. Additionally, if you must cancel after you have accepted, do so as soon as possible.

While a wedding is a time to enjoy yourself, no one appreciates a drunk guest embarrassing themselves. Drink alcohol in moderation.

Above all, enjoy yourself, and tell the happy couple that you are so pleased for them.

Receiving Line....To Have or Not to Have?

Elegant weddings, Denver weddings, elopement, engagement parties, bridal, bride, Colorado Weddings Denver, Colorado, wedding coordinator, wedding planner, wedding, destination weddings, Colorado wedding, weddings, wedding planner, Colorado wedding planners, A Memory Lane Event , wedding decor

A receiving line of old, usually happened after the ceremony but before the reception. Bride, Groom and wedding party would make a line and all the guests would go down the line to congratulate the bride, groom and bridal party. Some brides and grooms would worry about the line taking up too much time.
If you have a receiving line after the ceremony, check with your officiant, there could be restrictions where the line could form. Many of today's weddings opt not to have a receiving line but to use the time during the cocktail hour or after dinner to walk around and great family and guests. Since the bride and groom are the first to receive dinner, they are the first finished. Going around the room to each table is more informal and relaxed way to talk with guests. Take your photographer with you to capture each table with you and the groom. (Guests have more to say when there is not a line of people waiting behind them.)

Religion, Tradition, and the wedding Guest

If you’re worried about attending a ceremony in a different religion or culture than your own, don’t worry. You will most likely not being the only “outsider” there, and the primary thing the bride and broom will care about is your presence. These days, a religious wedding ceremony is generally open for those of other faiths to attend, and you can participate in as much or as little as you choose. Religious leaders are accustomed to the fact that there will be people of many faiths attending; thus they generally tend to explain what is happening, and what the congregation is expected to do. If you’re worried that your own religion won’t approve of you attending another worship service, speak with your religious leader. In the event it’s not appropriate for you, you can probably skip the ceremony and attend only the reception.

Here’s a quick rundown of things guests might encounter at a religious wedding:

Catholic: Most weddings include communion, which is offered only to those who have received their First Holy Communion in the Catholic Church. If you aren’t Catholic, stand so that any Catholics in your row may pass, then sit back down and wait quietly.

Jewish:The wedding service is often in Hebrew, but if you don’t understand the language, try to enjoy the spirit, music, and company around you. Men, no matter what their faith, are generally expected to wear skull caps or yarmulkes inside the synagogue. You’ll most likely find them being given out just outside of the doors.

Muslim:Most Muslims do not have a public ceremony, only a public reception.

Mormon: Most Mormon wedding ceremonies are restricted to only practicing Mormons. Don’t be offended if you aren’t invited to the ceremony.

To add to your comfort level, why not ask the bride and groom to give you a brief outline of what to expect on the day of the wedding. Or, you can read these links for general overviews.

What to look for when hiring an Event or Wedding Planner, coordinator

elegant wedding, wedding coordinator, wedding planner, event planner, event coordinator, Denver weddings, elopement, bridal, bride. Colorado Weddings Denver, Colorado, wedding, destination weddings, Colorado wedding, weddings, wedding planner, Colorado wedding planners, When planning your events or wedding don’t procrastinate. Look for a planner or coordinator that does not overbook themselves.  You want great service not someone that is not available to you or considers your needs as a client.  A Memory Lane Event & Wedding in Denver does just that.  We book up quickly as we only realize one clients amazing vision for their event or wedding per week. We meet with clients at night & on the weekends, when they are available, not make them take time out of their schedule to meet with us during the day.  We want our clients to have our undivided attention and be treated like the royalty that they are to us.  We are organized, on the ball and creative.  When you need it we have cost cutting ideas & deals w/ vendors that will save you money and frustration so your planning process remains fun & enjoyable.  We can recommend and schedule meetings with our tried & true vendors saving you time, be diligent in attending these meetings.  We want to be sure that you like your vendors & will be happy with the results for your wedding.  Our vendors as well as ourselves want to be completely sure that we understand what your vision for your events and wedding are so be sure to communicate with us. We would much prefer that you tell us the same thing twice then think you’ve told us and something on your big event or wedding was amiss. Were here to assist you in realizing your vision as well as keep you in your budget.

Many times the vision of the wedding day are different between finance’s.  Be willing to compromise so both you and your finance’s styles and flair are apparent in the wedding ceremony, reception, &/or after party.  Sometimes this can be accomplished by having a different vision realized in different areas of the day.  Such as perhaps your fiancé would like the ceremony to reminiscent of Italy, and you are envisioning a winter wonderland concept.  We can have the décor and lighting in the ceremony romantic in colors and plants that remind you of Italy, while the cocktail hour between the ceremony and reception can be glittering white trees and white & blue lights opening up to the reception that is Italy in winter.  Both sides happy.  Or perhaps you’re both dreaming of a out door mountain top wedding at sunset but have several guests that will be in wheelchairs and the actual mountain top is just not feasible so all of your guests can attend.  We can recreate with décor and lighting in a city venue the outdoor mountain top at sunset and all of your guests can attend.

When hiring A Memory Lane Event – you share the tasks, with A Memory Lane Event taking on most of them to allow you to be able to have fun during your engagement.  We are assertive to make sure that our clients visions are realized in each and every aspect.  This leaves you time to take care of yourself.  We look forward to working with you and assisting you to have the dazzling event or wedding

A common misconception of new couples is that you can pull your dress from a rack and take it home with you that day.  This is not true. (1) nothing fits any of us perfectly just pulled off a rack &  (2) most boutiques and bridal shops have sample dresses for you to try on and see which dress looks the best & is your vision for you on your wedding day or the event of the year that you want to create.  When you head to the salon to pick your gorgeous wedding dress you need to be sure to purchase your dress 6-8 months in advance to allow time for it to be made, and alternations.  It takes time to make the dress in the closest size that you are and then make alternations so you're your best on your wedding day.  If you’re heading to the salon to pick the dress for the event of the year, you need 6 weeks for the dress to be made.  Then you need another 3-4 weeks for alternations.

When planning the event of the year or your wedding there is To Do list that you need to consider.

1.    What time of year you want to  have your event or wedding;
2.    What day of the week you would prefer to have your big party;
3.    Your total budget; i.e. it doesn’t make sense to pick the venue first if you have a tight budget and the venue ends up costing a majority of your budget.  Then your food, liquor, clothes, and ambiance will suffer.    Also remember that most people, unless you are a professional are not planning events & weddings on a regular basis and that the costs of the items that you see on T.V. and in the magazines are probably far more expensive then you initially realize.  Hiring a professional, such as A Memory Lane Event & Wedding in Denver to assist you with your plans, and coordinating will give you discounts in buying and negotiating power that will ultimately save you allot of time, money, sanity and frustration.  We have 19 years in the business and know where and what you can cut back on that will not show to your guests & still make you look like a rock-star.  Leaving you with a timeless, elegant & dazzling event or wedding with a diamond quality all while you were able to remain calm and enjoy the planning time and ultimately the day of your event of the year or amazing wedding day.
4.    Call A Memory Lane Event to discuss with our head planner, coordinator, décor & floral designer your event of the year or amazing wedding plans. 303-513-2364. We want to also meet with you in person to discover all of the goals, personalities and vision.  The face to face meeting should include everyone on the committee, the person of honor, or for a wedding the couple, parents too if participating in paying for the wedding.  Our goal is to make sure that everyone who has a vested participation in the event or wedding gets a say in the ultimate outcome.  However, this can become confusing for the couple.  Ultimately it is the couples’ day and their wishes are the final decision.  We do our best to accommodate everyone’s vested opinions.  We prefer to have face to face meetings at the couples home so we can see your styles and flair and be sure that your represented in the day.  After all, we are here for our clients to make your visions a reality, we have our own events & weddings and do not impose our personality into your events & big day.  If you meet with someone who is not truly interested in you and your wishes, they are not the vendor, planner or coordinator for you.
5.    Professional planners, coordinators, décor and floral designers such as A Memory Lane Event & Wedding have ideas that can help you create your event of the year and amazing wedding day and keep you in your budget.  Your initial idea may be too much for your budget, but we can assist you in creating something that is uniquely your style and fit into your budget.  However, when you’re not willing to compromise you may need to pony up the additional costs involved with your vision.  In many ways we’re miracle workers, but haven’t figured out how to make it rain money.  We have connections world wide with the best of the best vendors, locations, and elements to make your event of the year or wedding just as you have envisioned.

We look forward to working with you and assisting you in creating your dazzling event of the year or amazing wedding complete with custom décor, floral design or lighting elements in Denver, any where in Colorado, or any U.S. or International destination with a diamond quality.

Bustling a gown – always takes a few min’s even when you have a professional with 19 years experience and has done hundreds doing it.  You want the bustle to stay so your gown doesn’t become ruined while your dancing that night.  Be patient even with 2-3 people assisting, it will take a good few minutes.  Relax with a glass of Champagne or white wine while we get you ready for your party.

It's best to have a professional assist with this however we all know that bridesmaids love to do it.  A Professional like A Memory Lane Event, is on hand to sew the bustle in place, should it fall to reduce the wear & tear on your dress.

Bridal bags.  It's important to have items on hand that you think you'll never need, such as band-aids, deodorant, clear nail polish & lotion.  You'd be surprised how many of these items are needed in the bridal party through out the night.  Another must have.  Tide's stain stick.  There's many more items that you need in the all important bridal bag.  Hire a professional  such as A Memory Lane Event & Wedding to have the best stocked bridal bag.

Spring & summer has its snow and rain showers and fall has its early blizzards and more rain thus providing Coloradoans with unpredictable and sometimes severe weather.  Combine that with our occasional flooding and you never know what surprises the weather will have in store for your special day. Be flexible and hire a professional planner and coordinator such as A Memory Lane Event & Wedding who will prep you for alternatives and be prepared in the off chance that there is a change in the weather. Don’t risk your wedding day memories. When planning an outside wedding ceremony &.or reception have a back up plan. We’ve had couples who have wanted an outside sunset wedding in spring, summer or fall without a back up plan a particular couple we worked with last fall would have been getting married at the lake in 31 degree weather & snow.  Two days before and two days later we had 50-60 degree days and it would have worked great.  We’ve had other couples who have wanted to have an out side ceremony in a beautifully landscaped garden area.  It was easy to see how tempting it was to have a wedding there, just stunning. 20 minutes before the ceremony the heavens opened up and began to flood the area where the ceremony was set to take place.  If we hadn’t arranged a back up plan it would have been disastrous. Our staff of 16 quickly ran out in the down pour and moved all of the chairs, reset the second indoor area and dried all of the chairs.  The wedding was still able to take place on time.  The rain finally stopped just after dinner service was over. Pre-ceremony photos had to be taken after the wedding which did delay the reception somewhat.  Remember that even with the best measures taken, if the bride is outside at any point the hem will get dirty.  This is usually true for perfect weather days as well.  The couples and their families were all in good spirits despite the storm and the extra hassles that always accompany bad weather. Just be mindful of outside weddings.  Weather is never predictable, especially in Colorado so make sure you discuss backup plans, that will provide adequate room for all of your guests with your professional planner/ coordinator.  Call A Memory Lane Event & Wedding  today for your free consult.  303-513-2364
