Live Band vs. DJ for weddings for Colorado events

Live bands can be tons of fun, feeds off of and creates excitement in the crowd.  However, there are a few things you need to be aware of if you are considering a live band as your entertainment for your Colorado event or Denver wedding.

Live bands
Denver's best cover, dance and party band

  •  Live bands do not always sound the same in person as they do on the radio

  • Most bands are covering other famous bands songs, no matter what - they will not sound identical, but sound close.
  • Live bands do need 15-20 minute breaks every hour to rest their voice.  During the break there is not always music.  Some bands will bring an iPOD or other forms of music during breaks but not all of them.  You’ll want to check with them, hire a DJ for breaks or have your planner work with the band to make sure that the party doesn’t come to an abrupt stop every 40 minutes.
  •  Some people have an alternative form of entertainment during breaks such as stilt walkers, feather fan dancers, acrobats.
  • Hiring a famous band for your wedding, will take some attention off you as the couple.  People will attend just to be at the private concert but not necessarily to support you as a couple, not to mention set up back several pretty pennies.
  • Bands usually have pre-set songs in the order that they they’ve practiced them in.  It’s tough to do, songs by request as the band may not remember the words to them when they are out of order.
  • Some bands can have big attitudes.  Some musicians due to all of their training and practice may be a little pre-maddona to work with.  Be prepared and have your planner work with them to remove as much stress as possible from you and your families.

Several times over the years we’ve experienced all of the above and more… if you want a live band, you will want an event or wedding planner and coordinator to assist you with choosing a great band that matches your personality and price point as well as to assist especially on the day of.   Even if its just to make sure that the facility has enough power to handle all of the electrical equipment and bring in & set up generators, deal with the wires and dead spots if there is not enough power.

DJ’s

Perry Washington, Masterpiece Mobile DJ

  • The music that is played will sound exactly like it does on the radio.
  • Usually comes with extra fun lighting for atmosphere
  • Is far less expensive than a live band
  • Can double for both the ceremony & the reception
  • Can usually read the crowd to give as much variety in music as there are people in attendance
  • Typically there is always enough power in the facility to power their equipment
  • Can assist with MC services

Not all DJs are created equal.  There’s great DJs and there are so-so DJs.  Experienced Denver event planners and Colorado wedding planners can help you to choose a DJ that will fit with your personality and price point as well as the extras that you want.
